Well, you know they say “all good things must come to an end” and it is with some sadness that we announce that our beloved Life In A Kilt Podcast will be soon coming to an end. In fact, next week’s episode 74 will be our final podcast.
After almost a year and a half of trying to make a weekly podcast work, we just haven’t been able to generate enough audience interest to keep the podcast in production. Each week our download numbers continue to drop even after spending a good deal of time and money trying to spread the word. Unfortunately, joining the ESO Broadcasting Network didn’t increase our laudience like we had hoped and after awhile one has to face the fact that maybe one isn’t producing a show that a lot of people want to listen to. It’s just a fact, I suppose. So, as we’ve watched our listener numbers fall week after week, we just decided it’s best to stop the podcast and move on to something else. That’s life, right?
From the beginning of the podcast, Cheri and I decided we didn’t want to be just a boring show discussing the rules and regulations of wearing a kilt. We always strived to be as much about entertainment as we were about kilt info. Maybe that’s what killed us in the end but we did the kind of show we wanted to do and had a lot of fun doing it. I’m not sure we did the “perfect” kilt podcast but we did ours. I do hope someone else out there does a better one and has more longevity than we did.
We want to thank all of you who subscribed, listened, wrote us letters and participated in our challenges and events. You made it all worth it and we feel like you became not just our listeners but our friends. You made it fun to do the show and we hope we kept you entertained while we supported the kilt wearing community. A huge “thanks” to all of you.
Cheri and I started the Life In A Kilt Podcast back in 2013 (it was called “The Life In A Kilt Show” then) and did every episode but one together. Personally, I can’t imagine ever doing the show with another co-host and I had a blast with every show I made with her. Every week she’s had to come over to my messy studio and record a show and listen to my crap, and yet, she kept coming back. My gratitude to her as well.
As far as the actual podcast episodes go, I suppose they will be around for a little while longer for those who wish to still download old episodes. Some distributors (like iTunes) will drop a podcast listing after a certain amount of time of inactivity, so at some point I’m sure the episodes will disappear from the internet. But feel free to listen to them all you want until they are gone.
As for me, well, my podcast career is not over. As some of you may know, Cheri and I recently started a new podcast called This Epic Disaster and we’ll be trying to develop that show for now. If you enjoyed our banter, games and other stupid crap on the Life In A Kilt Podcast, it’ll be a lot like that only with less kilt talk. But maybe there will be some. Hopefully it will have more “general audience” appeal than a kilt show has but who knows? You are welcome to come over and listen to it if you want. We’re having fun with it so far.
Once again, thanks to everyone for your support and for becoming our friends. We’re very proud of the work we did with the Life In A Kilt Podcast and we’re honored that you gave us a few minutes of your life to entertain and inform you. We’ll still be around so come by and say “hello” every once in awhile, okay?
